Heart of the Matter, Issue #002 -- Never lose sight of good health

Here's to good health

Recent tragic events at home have made me think. Think about how I view my current life. Like the rest of the world I was lost in “keeping up with the Jone’s” acquiring things and rushing about like a busy bee. Do “things” really make us rich? I found myself recently asking this very question. We all know that it doesn’t. In fact I’m pretty certain everyone would agree that material possessions don’t make us rich.

My colleagues and close friends have lost a brother, a mother and a 9 year old boy that died from a cardiac arrest brought about his own cardiac condition. A close friend has just been diagnosed with cervical cancer. I don’t know the details nor would I dare share their intimate details. I myself have had my own troubles and looking at what others are going through really opens my eye’s to my own richness. My troubles suddenly don’t seem so important compared to others, but they are mine. From my own point of view my problems are the worst I’ve been through and still going through. We all face varying degrees of stress in life. Stress is both good and bad at the same time, but at the end of it we come out stronger than ever. Yes there is an end to stress and bad times. Even though it is difficult to see the “light at the end of the tunnel”, it is there.

When stress hits us, sometimes hard, it is easy to lose sight of the big picture, the important things in life that makes us happy and healthy. Being rich in life is far more enriching than material wealth. Remember to not lose sight of your health. Having good health to enjoy your close friends and watch your children grow. Good health to grow old and watch your children get married and have kids. Good health to hold the hand of your love of your life as you gently rock in your rocking chair at the retirement home. Look back and remember the choices we made in good times and bad have given you great health and all the riches you deserve.

Talk and have fun with good Friends

Walk the dog, if you don’t have a dog, walk the cat, if you don’t have a pet then just walk

Understand the risk factors

Life has some element of risk. It is far better to take control of what you can while you still can. Heart disease runs in many families, we can't choose our parents nor can we choose our genetics. Reduce the heart disease risk by doing what you can now, maybe you can be a hero, to yourself and save your own life.
